General FAQ

Do you offer a trial or sample of your screencasts?

Yes and Yes. You won't be charged during your free trial, and you can cancel anytime. We'll remind you when your free trial is about to end, so you can cancel your account if you choose not to be a member of The Frontier. If you choose to continue enjoying The Frontier after your trial ends, you’ll be automatically charged the annual fee.

We also have two free sample screencasts that don't require a subscription. This will give you a small taste of what to expect once you join.

What is The Frontier?

Which type of training is right for me?

Need to train an entire team on leveling up on a language or platform? Our corporate training program is likely the best option for you. Are you an individual developer looking to learn a new language or platform? Check out our schedule of intensive bootcamps.

If you’re a working intermediate-to-advanced developer keen to stay on top of your already robust skills, then you belong on The Frontier.

Why is Big Nerd Ranch offering online training?

Students walk away from their Big Nerd Ranch trainings bursting with inspiration and ready to take on new challenges. But we noticed a gap: where do alumni turn to continue their learning? Enter The Frontier, where we guide you through the latest in mobile and web development tips, tricks, and best practices, all from the comfort of your favorite desk chair. And you don’t even have to be an alumnus to join us.

A word to the wise: this journey is best suited for advanced practitioners. If you identify closer to ‘intermediate’, a different Big Nerd Ranch training is probably your best bet.

How do you define advanced skills?

Content on The Frontier is created with the assumption that you already have a strong grasp on building products in your preferred platform. You’ve mastered the fundamentals and are looking to hone your skills and stay up-to-date with new trends. If you want to learn a new language or need a refresher on developing for iOS or Android, one of our corporate trainings or bootcamps may be a better fit.

How often are new screencasts added?

We add new screencasts to the platform every month. The content library is constantly expanding. We only remove screencasts if they’ve been updated by newer content. If you have any suggestions on screencasts topics submit them in our contact us.

Can I download screencasts?

Unfortunately, no. You can, however, download supplemental materials related to your favorite screencast, which will help you put your new knowledge to practice.

Is there a limit to how many screencasts I can watch?

Binge away! Unlimited viewings mean you can watch all available screencasts, anytime and anyplace. Because don’t you want to brag to your roommate about how you learned tvOS overnight?

Where can I suggest screencast topics?

We’d love to hear from you about specific topics you’re interested in. Fill out the contact us form and we’ll review your suggestion.

Who are the instructors?

Your guides on this journey are Big Nerd Ranch engineers and instructors who have taught thousands of students. To be precise, more than 17,000 students have improved their careers with Big Nerd Ranch bootcamps alone. And 19 of America’s 25 most popular apps were built by companies whose developers were taught by our team. Suffice it to say, you’re in good hands.

What topics do you cover?

Even before you subscribe, you’re able to browse through our screencasts to see what iOS and Android topics we cover, their descriptions, and who teaches them. Feel free to peruse, and we hope you join us on The Frontier!
